Ingredients Notes For Sweet and Salty Churro Bites

1. Dough: Use a simple choux pastry dough for the perfect texture. Flour, water, butter, and eggs are all you need. 2. Cinnamon Sugar: A classic blend of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for coating the bites. 3. Salt: Just a pinch enhances the sweetness and adds a delightful contrast. 4. Oil for Frying: Use a neutral oil like vegetable or canola for frying the bites to a golden perfection.

Recipe Steps

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball. Let it cool slightly before adding eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  2. Heat the Oil: In a deep pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Test the temperature with a small piece of dough; it should sizzle and turn golden brown.
  3. Pipe the Dough: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small bite-sized pieces onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Fry the Bites: Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar: While still warm, toss the churro bites in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar until well coated.
  6. Serve: Enjoy immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Storage Options

Store any leftover churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for a few minutes to regain their crispiness.

  • 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar for coating
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon for coating
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt for coating
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare Dough: In a medium saucepan, combine the water, unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Remove from heat and add the flour all at once, stirring vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  • Cool and Add Eggs: Allow the dough to cool for 5 minutes. Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  • Heat Oil: In a deep skillet or large pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  • Pipe Dough: Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 1-inch pieces of dough into the hot oil, using scissors or a knife to cut the dough from the tip.
  • Fry Churro Bites: Fry the churro bites in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the churro bites to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  • Coat Churro Bites: In a shallow bowl, mix together the 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and sea salt. While the churro bites are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly.
