Ingredients Notes For Apple Fritter Bread:

  • Apples: Choose a mix of sweet and tart apples, like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp, for a balanced flavor.
  • Cinnamon Sugar: A mixture of cinnamon and sugar creates the sweetly spiced layers within the bread.
  • Batter: A simple batter enriched with sour cream or yogurt for moistness and a tender crumb.
  • Glaze: A simple glaze made with powdered sugar and milk (or apple cider for extra flavor) adds a sweet finish.
  • Nuts: Optional, but walnuts or pecans can add a delightful crunch.

Recipe Steps:

  1. Prep Apples: Peel and chop the apples. Toss with cinnamon and sugar to coat.

  4. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Glaze: Cool the bread in the pan before drizzling with the prepared glaze.

Storage Options:

  • Countertop: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Refrigerate: For longer storage, keep refrigerated for up to a week.

Ingredients

For the Bread:

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 apples peeled, cored, and diced (preferably a sweet variety like Honeycrisp or Gala)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Brown Sugar and Cinnamon:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

Prepare the Apple Mixture:

  • In another bowl, combine the diced apples with 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture. Toss until the apples are well coated. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar:

  • In a large bowl, beat the granulated sugar and softened butter together until smooth and creamy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients:

  • Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.

Mix Dry Ingredients into Wet Ingredients:

  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, until just combined.

Assemble the Bread:

  • Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Add half of the apple mixture over the batter, then sprinkle half of the remaining brown sugar-cinnamon mixture on top.
  • Pour the remaining batter over the apple layer and top with the remaining apple mixture, followed by the remaining brown sugar-cinnamon mixture.

Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.

Prepare the Glaze:

  • While the bread is cooling, mix the powdered sugar, milk (or cream), and vanilla extract (if using) in a bowl until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add a little more milk until it reaches a drizzling consistency.

Finish and Serve:

  • Once the bread has cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top. Allow the glaze to set before slicing and serving.

Tried this tonight and made it as written but added 1/2c of sour cream to the batter and a couple extra teaspoons of flour to offset. My husband, who goes crazy for apple fritters, ate two slices after dinner and said he might actually like the cake better than fritters. Definitely a win and love that it is healthier than deep fried fritters and an easy to follow recipe.!
