Ingredients Notes for Texas Roadhouse Rolls

  • Active Dry Yeast: Helps the dough rise and become fluffy. Ensure it’s fresh for the best results.
  • Milk: Adds richness and softness to the rolls. Whole milk works best, but any milk can be used.
  • Butter: Essential for that classic, buttery flavor. Use unsalted butter so you can control the saltiness.
  • Sugar: Provides the rolls’ signature sweetness and helps activate the yeast.

Recipe Steps for Texas Roadhouse Rolls

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, warm 1 cup of milk to about 110°F (43°C). Stir in 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup melted butter, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, and the yeast mixture. Gradually add 4 cups of all-purpose flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle. Cut the dough into squares or rectangles to form rolls.
  6. Second Rise: Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let them rise again for 30-40 minutes.
  7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Brush with Butter: As soon as the rolls come out of the oven, brush them with melted butter for that signature Texas Roadhouse finish.

Soft, fluffy, and buttery dinner rolls with a hint of sweetness, served warm and perfect with a spread of cinnamon honey butter.
Prep Time 20 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 40 minutes
Serving Size 16 Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk about 110°F/45°C
  • 1 package 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 - 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • For Brushing:
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted (for brushing the tops)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
  • Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, remaining sugar, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  • Add Dry Ingredients: Add 2 cups of flour and the salt to the wet mixture. Stir until combined. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but not too wet.
  • Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  • Let the Dough Rise:
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the top. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/2-inch thick. Cut the dough into 12-16 squares or rectangles using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter.
  • Second Rise: Place the cut dough pieces onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake the Rolls:
  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
  • Brush with Butter: Immediately after removing the rolls from the oven, brush the tops with the melted butter for that classic Texas Roadhouse finish.
  • Serve:
  • Enjoy your warm and fluffy Texas Roadhouse Rolls with honey butter or alongside your favorite meal. These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
