Preparation Steps
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook until apples are slightly soft, about 5 minutes.
Mix cornstarch with water and stir into the apple mixture. Cook until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
Roll out puff pastry and cut into 4-inch squares. Place a spoonful of apple mixture in the center of each square.
Brush edges of pastry squares with egg wash, fold over, and seal edges with a fork.
Place turnovers on the prepared baking sheet. Brush tops with egg wash.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
Notes
These turnovers can be served warm or at room temperature. For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.
