  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups warm water 110°F
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil plus extra for brushing
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme chopped

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil; stir until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and allow to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
  • Punch down the dough, then mix in garlic and herbs evenly.
  • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  • Brush the loaf with olive oil. Make slashes on top with a sharp knife, then bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Bread is best served warm, straight from the oven or lightly reheated.
