  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 1 cup green bell pepper chopped
  • 1 cup sloppy joe sauce canned or homemade
  • 8 slices bread your choice of bread
  • 2 tbsp butter softened
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until tender.
  • Stir in the sloppy joe sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Butter one side of each bread slice. Place 4 slices, butter side down, on a griddle or frying pan.
  • Add a layer of the beef mixture and sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Top with the remaining bread slices, butter side up.
  • Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, flipping once.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
