Making Charlotte’s Spiced Nuts at Home

Ingredients
 

  • 2 cups mixed nuts such as almonds, pecans, walnuts, and cashews
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust based on your heat preference
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Baking Sheet:
  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Mix the Spices and Sugar:
  • In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, sea salt, cinnamon, cumin, cayenne pepper, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. Mix well to combine.
  • Prepare the Nuts:
  • If using egg white for extra crispiness, in a separate bowl, whisk the egg white until frothy and then toss the mixed nuts in the egg white to coat.
  • Add the melted butter and Worcestershire sauce to the spiced sugar mixture and stir to form a thick paste.
  • Toss the nuts in this mixture until they are evenly coated.
  • Bake:
  • Spread the coated nuts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking and to prevent them from sticking.
  • Cool and Serve:
  • Remove the nuts from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
  • Once cooled, transfer the nuts to a serving bowl or store them in an airtight container.
