Instructions
Preparation Steps
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook green beans for 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add onions and mushrooms, cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
Stir in flour and cook for an additional minute. Gradually whisk in milk, bringing mixture to a simmer until thickened.
Combine cooked green beans with the sauce and transfer to a casserole dish. Top with crispy fried onions if desired.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes until mixture is bubbly and golden brown on top.
Notes
For a more indulgent version, use heavy cream instead of milk and top with extra cheese before baking.
