Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds fresh green beans trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions optional for topping

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook green beans for 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add onions and mushrooms, cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in flour and cook for an additional minute. Gradually whisk in milk, bringing mixture to a simmer until thickened.
  • Combine cooked green beans with the sauce and transfer to a casserole dish. Top with crispy fried onions if desired.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes until mixture is bubbly and golden brown on top.

Notes

For a more indulgent version, use heavy cream instead of milk and top with extra cheese before baking.
