Ingredients
 

  • ½ cup 0.25 lbs unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup 0.5 lbs granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups 0.75 lbs all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup 0.25 lbs milk
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Optional toppings: fresh berries whipped cream, or jam

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar:
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla:
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Combine Wet and Dry:
  • Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in batches, alternating with the milk.
  • Mix just until combined—do not overmix.
  • Bake the Cake:
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool and Serve:
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
