Servings: 12 brownies

Ingredients

  • For the Brownies:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • For the Cream Cheese Swirl:
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Orange and purple food coloring optional, for Halloween theme

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  • Make the Brownie Batter: In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder, mixing until just combined. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, reserving about 1/4 cup of the batter for the swirl.
  • Make the Cream Cheese Swirl: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Divide the cream cheese mixture into two bowls. Add orange food coloring to one bowl and purple food coloring to the other, stirring until the colors are well mixed.
  • Assemble the Swirl: Drop spoonfuls of the orange and purple cream cheese mixtures on top of the brownie batter in the pan. Add small dollops of the reserved brownie batter on top as well. Use a knife or toothpick to gently swirl the colors together, creating a marbled effect.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool and Slice: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment overhang. Slice into squares and enjoy!
