  • 1.5 lbs ground beef lean
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 8 oz uncooked pasta penne or fusilli
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 0.5 tsp salt or to taste
  • 0.25 tsp ground black pepper or to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 0.5 cup parmesan cheese grated

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until onions are translucent.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • While the sauce is simmering, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by half of the beef sauce, and then half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers.
  • Sprinkle the top with grated parmesan cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture. Serve with a side salad for a complete meal.
