  • 0.67 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar add more or less to taste
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp milk to loosen the dressing
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice fresh if possible
  • 0.5 tsp celery seed
  • 0.75 tsp kosher salt to taste
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper freshly ground

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Whisk mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, milk, lemon juice, celery seed, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Fold in cabbage, carrots, and onion until everything is evenly coated.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity with a pinch more sugar or vinegar, if needed.
  • Cover and chill for at least 1 hour for best flavor and texture.
  • Toss again before serving to redistribute the dressing.

Notes

Variation: Stir in 2 tbsp chopped dill pickles for a tangy twist, or swap half the mayo for plain Greek yogurt. Serving/Storage: Serve cold with barbecue or fried chicken. Store in the fridge up to 3 days; refresh with a splash of vinegar if it tastes muted.
