Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese sharp or medium
  • 1 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir continuously for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is golden and slightly bubbly.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure to break up any clumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Stir in the cheese, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
  • Return the drained macaroni to the pot and mix well with the cheese sauce. Serve immediately, garnished with extra cheese or parsley if desired.

Notes

Adjust the amount of cheese or seasonings to your preference. Add cooked bacon or steamed broccoli for additional flavor and nutrition.
