Instructions
Preparation Steps
Preheat your smoker to 225°F using your preferred wood chips.
In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until just combined. Do not overmix.
Form the beef mixture into 4 equally-sized patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
Place the patties directly on the smoker's grill grates and smoke for about 1 hour or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
Brush the patties with barbecue sauce and add a slice of cheddar cheese on top during the last 5 minutes of smoking.
Remove the patties from the smoker and allow them to rest for a few minutes before serving on hamburger buns.
Notes
For an added kick, consider adding a pinch of smoked paprika to the beef mixture.
