Preparation Steps
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat together the sugar and vegetable oil until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Stir in the buttermilk, vanilla extract, vinegar, and red food coloring until the mixture is smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
For the frosting, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake before serving.
