Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
In a saucepan over medium heat, bring butter, boiling water, and cocoa powder to a boil, stirring continuously. Pour over the dry ingredients and mix well.
Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla extract to the mixture and whisk until smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool before slicing and serving.
