  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup orange juice freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 cup soy sauce low sodium
  • 0.5 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tsp ginger grated
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp orange zest from 1 orange
  • 1 tbsp green onions sliced, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • In a separate saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, sugar, grated ginger, minced garlic, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Stir in the cornstarch mixture and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions.

Notes

This recipe pairs well with steamed rice or noodles. Adjust the sugar and soy sauce levels according to your taste preference if needed.
