  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking
  • 1 pound ground beef lean
  • 1 cup chopped onion about 1 medium onion
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1.5 cups pasta sauce marinara or your favorite variety
  • 1 cup beef broth low sodium
  • 0.5 cup water as needed
  • 8 ounces lasagna noodles broken into pieces
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese whole milk
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 0.25 cup fresh basil chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking apart with a spoon.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until onion is translucent.
  • Stir in pasta sauce, beef broth, water, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  • Add broken lasagna noodles. Stir to ensure they are submerged in the liquid. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once noodles are tender, dot the ricotta over the top. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly.
  • Cover and cook until cheese is melted, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let stand for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

Feel free to add your own favorite vegetables or use ground turkey for a lighter version.
