Course: sauce
Kitchen: Italian-American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic minced (optional for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Pinch of nutmeg optional, for added depth

Instructions

  • Melt the Butter:
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. If using garlic, sauté it for about 30 seconds until fragrant (don’t let it brown).
  • Add the Cream:
  • Slowly pour in the heavy cream, stirring to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer—do not let it boil.
  • Add Cheese and Seasoning:
  • Reduce heat to low and stir in the Parmesan cheese. Keep stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, and a tiny pinch of nutmeg if using.
  • Serve Immediately:
  • Toss with freshly cooked pasta, pour over vegetables, or use as a base for chicken Alfredo. Serve warm.
