  • 4 lb pork shoulder boneless
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup orange juice freshly squeezed
  • 0.25 cup lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 jalapeño seeded and chopped

Preparation Steps

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the pork shoulder with cumin, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Sear the pork shoulder in the skillet until all sides are browned, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Transfer the seared pork to a slow cooker. Add garlic, onion, jalapeño, orange juice, and lime juice.
  • Cover and cook on low heat for 7-8 hours, or until fork-tender.
  • Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.
  • Optional: To crisp the meat, spread the shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes until crispy.

Notes

You can serve these carnitas with tortillas, cilantro, onions, and avocado for a complete meal.
