  • 1 box white cake mix 15.25 oz package
  • 1.25 cups water
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs large
  • 1 package cherry gelatin mix 3 oz package
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 can cherry pie filling 21 oz
  • 8 oz whipped topping thawed

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 1/4 cups water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until well blended.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • While the cake is baking, dissolve the cherry gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water.
  • Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and poke holes all over the top with a fork.
  • Slowly pour the gelatin mixture over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  • Let the cake cool completely, then spread the cherry pie filling over the top.
  • Finish by spreading the whipped topping over the cherry layer. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
