Instructions
Preparation Steps
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 1/4 cups water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix until well blended.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
While the cake is baking, dissolve the cherry gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water.
Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and poke holes all over the top with a fork.
Slowly pour the gelatin mixture over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
Let the cake cool completely, then spread the cherry pie filling over the top.
Finish by spreading the whipped topping over the cherry layer. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
