  • 1.5 pounds ground beef 85% lean
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup 10.5 oz can
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots 32 oz bag
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 0.5 cup ketchup for serving, optional

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef, cooking until onions are soft.
  • Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and milk, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Spread the beef mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Arrange tater tots in a single layer over the cheese layer.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, until tater tots are crispy.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cup of cheese on top and return to oven until cheese is melted, about 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot with ketchup on the side, if desired.
