Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 none bratwursts
  • 1 large yellow onion sliced
  • 2 cups light beer such as lager
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 none brat buns
  • 0.5 cup dijon mustard for serving

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the bratwursts to the skillet, and pour in the beer. Stir in garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 15 minutes, turning the brats occasionally.
  • Remove cover and continue to cook until the beer reduces and the brats are browned, about 5 more minutes.
  • Serve the brats in buns with caramelized onions and a side of Dijon mustard.

Notes

Feel free to substitute the beer with apple cider for a non-alcoholic version. Adjust seasoning to your taste.
