1lbfresh green beanstrimmed and cut into 1 ½-inch pieces (or use 2 cans, drained)
110.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
1/2cupmilk
1/2teaspoonsoy sauceoptional, for depth
1/4teaspoonblack pepper
1 1/3cupscrispy fried onionsdivided
Optional: 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese for a cheesy twist
Instructions
Prep the Green Beans:
If using fresh beans, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add beans and cook for 5–6 minutes until just tender. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop cooking. If using canned beans, simply drain them.
Make the Sauce:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), and pepper. Stir in the cooked (or drained) green beans and 2/3 cup of the crispy onions. Mix until well coated.
Assemble:
Pour the mixture into a greased 9x9 or 2-quart casserole dish. Smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake:
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Remove from oven, sprinkle the remaining fried onions (and cheese if using) over the top, and return to the oven for another 5–10 minutes, until golden and crisp.
Serve:
Let sit for a few minutes before serving. Pairs perfectly with roasted meats, mashed potatoes, and holiday feasts.
