Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: 16 brownies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules or espresso powder
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips for extra chocolatey flavor

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla: Let the mixture cool slightly, then beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, baking powder, and instant coffee granules.
  • Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Bake: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, cut into squares and enjoy!
