Ingredients
 

  • 4-5 medium apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts raisins, or whipped cream

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  • Melt Butter: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the Apples: Add the sliced apples to the skillet and stir to coat them in the melted butter.
  • Add Sugar and Spices: Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using) over the apples. Stir well to combine.
  • Cook: Cook the apples for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and the sugar has melted into a syrupy sauce.
  • Serve: Remove from heat and serve warm. Enjoy the cinnamon apples on their own, or as a topping for pancakes, ice cream, or oatmeal. Garnish with chopped nuts or raisins if desired.
