  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 0.5 cup carrots chopped
  • 0.5 cup celery chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup red wine preferably Chianti
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper freshly ground

Preparation Steps

  • Heat a large pot over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until vegetables are soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Pour in the red wine, increase the heat, and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 2 minutes to reduce slightly.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and lower the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Cook uncovered for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the milk, season with salt and pepper, and let it cook for another 30 minutes.
