  • 2 teaspoons salt divided
  • 1 cup buttermilk to soak the calamari
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs panko for extra crispiness
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese optional for added flavor
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest fresh

Preparation Steps

  • Combine calamari rings with buttermilk in a medium bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix flour and 1 teaspoon salt. Dredge each calamari ring in the flour.
  • Mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, lemon zest, and remaining salt in another bowl. Coat each calamari ring.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Place calamari in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Cook for 8 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a hint of cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture.
