How to Make Delicious Sushi Bake at Home

Ingredients

For the Sushi Rice:

  • Sushi rice: 450g (2 cups; 1 lb) – rinsed and cooked according to package instructions.
  • Rice vinegar: 60ml (1/4 cup; 0.13 lb) – adds the signature tangy flavor to the rice.
  • Sugar: 25g (2 tablespoons; 0.06 lb) – balances the acidity of the vinegar.
  • Salt: 5g (1 teaspoon; 0.01 lb) – enhances the overall flavor.

For the Seafood Filling:

  • Imitation crab meat (or cooked real crab meat), shredded: 300g (10.5 ounces; 0.66 lb) – provides the main seafood flavor.
  • Cream cheese, softened: 200g (7 ounces; 0.44 lb) – adds creaminess to the filling.
  • Mayonnaise: 120g (1/2 cup; 0.26 lb) – contributes to the richness and moisture.
  • Sriracha sauce (adjust to taste): 30ml (2 tablespoons; 0.07 lb) – introduces a spicy kick.
  • Green onions, chopped: 50g (1/4 cup; 0.11 lb) – adds a fresh, oniony crunch.
  • Sesame oil: 5ml (1 teaspoon; 0.01 lb) – gives a nutty flavor.

For Topping:

  • Mayonnaise: 60g (1/4 cup; 0.13 lb) – for creaminess.
  • Sriracha sauce: To taste – adds heat.
  • Sesame seeds: For garnish – adds texture and presentation.
  • Seaweed (nori) sheets: For serving – wraps the sushi bake.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice:
    • Cook the sushi rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, transfer to a large bowl. Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl until dissolved, then gently fold into the warm rice. Spread the seasoned rice evenly into a greased baking dish, creating the base layer of the sushi bake.
  2. Make the Seafood Filling:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the shredded imitation crab, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce, chopped green onions, and sesame oil. Mix until well combined. Spread this mixture evenly over the sushi rice in the baking dish.
  3. Add the Topping:
    • In a small bowl, mix together additional mayonnaise and Sriracha sauce (adjust the amount of Sriracha based on your preferred level of spiciness). Spread this mixture over the seafood filling. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the sushi bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and slightly golden.
  5. Serve:
    • Let the sushi bake cool slightly, then scoop portions onto nori sheets. Roll the nori around the sushi bake filling and enjoy.
