How to Make Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken At Home

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 2 large chicken breasts, sliced into strips or bite-sized pieces
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crispiness)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry, for thickening)

Instructions

Preparing the Chicken:

  1. Season the Chicken: Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
  2. Dredge the Chicken: Create a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs. Coat each chicken piece in flour, dip into the eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs. Make sure each piece is well-covered.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Making the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, and chili flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer.
  2. Thicken the Sauce: Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.

Combining Chicken and Sauce:

  1. Toss Chicken in Sauce: Add the fried chicken pieces to the saucepan and toss until they are well coated with the honey garlic sauce.
  2. Serve: Transfer the crispy honey garlic chicken to a serving dish. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish.
