Easy Homemade Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler

Ingredients

Scale

For the Peach Filling:

  • 6 cups fresh peaches, sliced (about 810 medium peaches)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water (if using fresh peaches) or 1/4 cup of the juice (if using canned peaches)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

For the Cobbler Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Prepare the Peach Filling:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Peaches: In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the peaches, 1 cup of sugar, and water (or peach juice). Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the peaches have softened slightly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until the butter is melted and everything is well combined.
  3. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Make the Cobbler Topping:

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the Egg: Stir in the beaten egg until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the Topping: Sprinkle this topping evenly over the peach filling.
  4. Drizzle with Butter: Pour the melted butter evenly over the top of the cobbler topping.

Bake:

  1. Bake the Cobbler: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbly.
  2. Cool and Serve: Let the cobbler cool for a few minutes before serving. It’s delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
